Do The Right Thing In June

Do the right thing

Universal are set to release the 20th anniversary edition of Spike Lee’s red-hot racial drama Do The Right Thing on Blu-ray in the US on 30 June. A UK release date has yet to be announced.

As well as a new VC-1 transfer, the disc will feature a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack and a pizzeria full of extras, including exclusives not on the Criterion DVD, such as a commentary, retrospective documentary and 11 deleted scenes.

Heralded as the definitive film on race relations, it has the curious honour of being the first date film for the Obamas, but also unfortunately introduced the world to Martin Lawrence.

Tartan UK In Administration

Tartan

To update our recent feed regarding the world-cinema distributor Tartan, it seems the company’s woes have spread across the pond. Indeed, 22 members of Tartan’s workforce have been made redundant amid administrative procedures. With the US sector selling off its 100-strong film library and now this, the future of Tartan movies on Blu-ray is still unknown – hopefully these latest events won’t affect the distributor’s current slate of upcoming releases.

Art Auction

The PropositionArt house distributor and recent Blu-ray adoptee Tartan has ceased business, Stateside that is. Auctioning off its 100-strong film library, which includes recent hits such as Oldboy and A Tale Of Two Sisters, film print and advertising financing company Palisades Media Corp made the purchase. With Tartan USA’s output relatively quiet so far this year, this move wasn’t too surprising. And, to relieve all left-field HD fans out there, this sell-off does not alter the impending Blu-ray releases of Sky Blue, The Proposition or A Tale Of Two Sisters – or Tartan UK’s continued dedication to the format.
