3D Standard Coming To Blu-ray

monsters-vs-aliens

The Blu-ray Disc Association has charged a task force with developing the best way to integrate 3D content into the high definition format. Representing studios, manufacturers and the IT industries, the group will look for a universal set of specifications for bringing stereoscopic material to future discs using the newer polarised technology, rather than the anaglyph efforts seen on discs such as My Bloody Valentine, and the US release of The Polar Express. We could be in for a long wait before anything is decided though - no timetable has been set, and with so many parties involved a unified 3D BD disc could could come some time after 3D TVs hit the high street.

Coraline Set For 3D BD

coraline

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has announced Henry Selick’s stop-motion fantasy Coraline will be released in the US on two-disc edition Blu-ray with both 2D and 3D versions of the film. Out on July 21, the film will sport 1.85:1, 1080p VC-1 encoded video, with a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack, four pairs of 3D glasses and the extras listed below. We’re a little worried that the average consumer on the street is going to start expecting cinema-level 3D with their Blu-ray purchase - will red and blue anaglyphic specs start to put people off? We’ll let you know when Coraline is confirmed for the UK.
