Finally jumping out of the rumour stage Sony has seen fit to whet appetites with an early spec listing for Stanley Kubrick’s satirical masterwork, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. Presented in its 1.66:1 AR and soundtracked in Dolby TrueHD, a 16 June release date has been tagged onto this exciting catalogue title.

The 44th President of the United States will deliver his weekly address online in high definition thanks to the new-look YouTube. Also available as a 54MB Mp4 download, the 720p footage lasts five minutes, with the newly-inaugurated President’s first address covering how the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan will jump-start the economy. Ok, so their movie is available on Blu-ray, but on February 15th Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie will make their high definition broadcast debut, when the first ever episode of The Simpsons airs in HD in the US. Fox will broadcast the 10th episode of season 20 - the 430th episode of the show overall - with the series’ first new title sequence since the show premiered in 1989. With Sky currently broadcasting new episodes, no word yet on whether the show will make the same transition over here, but look out for the episode “Take My Life, Please” - more news when we have it.

Following its first high-def pair up with Miramax, Disney is rumoured to be releasing a 2-disc collector’s edition of No Country For Old Men. Released less than a year ago in a high quality BD package this new release (if in fact gospel) is to host a trove of additional featurettes and interview spots. Potentially an unashamed ‘double dip’, this release bears all the hallmarks of a canny title repackage that will have Blu collectors scrambling for the pre-order.
