Nolan Talks Dark Knight Blu-ray

With The Dark Knight currently smashing box-office records left, right and centre it’ll be a while before the film appears on Blu-ray, but director Christopher Nolan has suggested that the film could appear on the format utilising more than one aspect ratio. With the majority of the film shot at 2.35:1, according to the director the specifically shot IMAX sequences include so much extra detail that they could be included at a 16:9 full-screen ratio on Blu-ray: “For home video, certainly, the Blu-ray version will [involve] actually changing the format size and actually using the IMAX footage,” Nolan said. “You can see the difference on that high resolution.”

Following on from Warner Home Video Japan’s announcement of a seven-disc Blu-ray boxset of the complete adventures of Neo and chums, the ‘Ultimate Matrix Collection’ has now been confirmed for a US bow on 14 October with an SRP of $129.95. Specs haven’t all been confirmed yet, but initial details suggest the Japanese box’s specs will be mirrored.
