Kill Bill Going Blu

Kill Bill

Quentin Tarantino’s East-meets-West chopsocky revenge saga, Kill Bill, is coming to Blu-ray. Walt Disney Home Entertainment (parent of Kill Bill producer Miramax) announced both parts of the martial-arts epic for the format on its US retailer site. No word on disc details just yet, except that the blood-spattered action will hit US streets on 9 September.

Disney Permanently Live

Walt Disney Pictures

“Every subsequent Disney title will have BD-Live. [This may] push the studios to reach new heights that have never been before imagined.” These were the words of Walt Disney Studios president Bob Chapek and with the upcoming Sleeping Beauty shaping up to being a dreamy little BD package, it seems the House of Mouse is really upping its already high game in the HD market.

Sleeping Beauty Blu-RayAlthough studio affiliates such as ABC, Touchstone and Miramax are directly included in this promise, the prospect of favourites ranging from The Lion King all the way up to Finding Nemo featuring such attention to detail in their next-gen releases puts Disney at the top of the pile when it comes to innovating the Blu-ray experience.

Cast-Iron Blu-ray Success?

Iron Man

Jon Favreau’s summer smash-tacular, Iron Man, is already doing rather well on Blu-ray – despite no announcement on disc details. Iron Man: Special Edition is available to pre-order on Amazon.com for $27.95, although its release date, box art, extras and disc specs are still unknown. It hasn’t stopped punters in the US though, where the title is currently the 27th most popular title in the movie and TV chart, and sits at #6 in the overall Blu-ray chart. We’re predicting big things for Blu-ray when old shell head hits the format – we’ll bring you the UK release date as soon as it’s announced.

Panasonic’s BT100 Blu-ray playerWe went along to Panasonic’s HD Live event at Abbey Road Studios on Tuesday, where the consumer-electronics firm unveiled its new wave of Blu-ray players, plasma and LCD TVs, Lumix digital cameras and HD camcorders. Panasonic also demoed its new line in professional HD production gear. One of the highlights was the new SC-BT100 Blu-ray-in-a-box system (pictured), which combines a wireless speaker system (upgradeable to 7.1 channels) with a Profile 1.1 Blu-ray player and features iPod compatibility. We also got to see the PZ81 plasma TV up close, having previously announced the freesat HD-ready displays in issue seven of HD Review. Look out for further details in a future issue.

The Beast Unleashed On Blu

The Incredible Hulk

The Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier has dropped a Blu bombshell after recently dispersing some vital specs for the green masher’s Blu-ray release. Apparently, there’s 70 (count ’em) minutes of cut footage – a signifier that despite alleged spats between director and star Edward Norton, both lost scenes they treasured – with Leterrier promising, “There’s some great stuff and there’s some really horrible stuff, but you’ll see it all.”Be it incorporated into a director/actor’s cut or standalone, this early supplement signals the Hulk’s HD outing is going to be all the rage.
